Update

Apparently while I was away some people took a liking to my blog, so I have decided to continue it. I will try my best to post but having class really doesn't allot me much time to write. The rest of this post will outline what I will write in my next few posts.

Update

You dont need an account to leave a comment.

Fighting/Raiding Technics

For beginners you swing your sword to kill people, then take their stuff. Attacking with a sword is preferable and jumping and swinging on the drop is important, this causes criticals. Another good thing to do is sprint at your enemy then swing, this causes a knokback effect and would allow for a smother escape. Enchantments are also a massive bonus to damage output and surviveability, from your chest plate to your sword they are invaluable. Getting the right enchantments is key what your looking for in a sword is Sharpness, Fire Aspect, Knockback, in armor you want protection most of all but the other derived protection enchants are fine.

No matter how boss you are at pvp under no circumstances should you take aggro (unless their is a plugin where tanking is encouraged). For instance, you are in a raiding clan of four people and you have the diamond gear, what do you do? You run in all hotshot like. Then you take all the enemy's aggro and damage while your party rushes to your aid. Unless a plugin like Hero's is installed this should be avoided (I will touch on heros in a another post)

Back in my pvp days my guildys and I preformed a tactic called juggling, a way to minimize damage to you and maximize damage output. What happens is one person attacks head on while another is flanking and a bit behind you. You strike 3-4 times before you run off like a pussy, then your teammate hits him from the back like a true boss, while this happens you need to run back at the enemy. Now you stab him again, and repeat this strategy, until the dude is dead.

* a quick tip, if you only have one splash potion of swiftness or something have everyone jump into a 1x1 hole then use it.

* you can use splash potion of damage in the spawn zone. :)

Don't use lava of fire in a skirmish, you will only hurt yourself in the scramble. defending is another thing, throw down some fire at the entrance to your base but make sure your foes cannot jump over it. its mostly a intimidation tool, nevertheless it works sometimes.

Hiding then springing out is the best way to go. If you took my advice to download x-ray finding enemies is easy, and with the cave finder mode you can see the layout of their base. Most of the time you have to crouch in a hole outside of their base an wait for an unsuspecting target to wander into your range. After he dies wait and let the fear sink in, just stand outside with your clan and stare at them.

When assaulting a base it is a wise idea to have someone with a knockback bow ready to fire an arrow right through the door. And even better for some one to be crouching right above the door to swing at whoever leaves.

*Just for fun you can leave religious stuff outside their base to creep them out, or blow holes in everything.

Now all the loot is inside on the enemy base so what do you do, you make a massive door in the wall. If you know how to make a TNT cannon then you can skip this. All a tnt cannon is in essence one piece of TNT launching another piece forward. Make sure that the TNT being launched is primed before the launching TNT goes off. Timing is key for distance, around five seconds before TNT goes off. Wait untill that sweet spot before you set it off. TNT cannons can get very complicated and I will make a video tutorial explainign how to make one.

Last is something that to many clans do, sit in their chest room while the raiders raid. Under NO circumstances should you do this, fight to the death especially when you outnumber them. Wining through attrition is noting to be ashamed about. Let me tell you a little story, these creative f*** came onto our clan server no one liked them. After awhile we got feed up and had a 40-7 fight with them, we won and the server was once again true hardcore pvp.

(Sorry if this wasn't up to snuff with my previous posts, this week has been rough on me.)

Update

I had a bad day so I just update the blog design. I added to the right a list of links, which have the basic necessities I will update them with all relevant links that you need. A new page navigation has been put under the title, keep in mind I still need to write the articles in them. Background and color scheme have been improved, I will try to implement more standards into how I post to keep things neat.

Using The Factions Plugin In Game Pt. 1

Joining a faction:
Factions is a plugin to help immerse players in the multiplayer experience. In short the faction system lets you create join and manage a faction, through the use of text based commands. To start off you might want to join a faction you would type in "/f list" to see a list of all factions and the amount of members each faction has. Once you find one you like you should ask a member of respective the faction you would like to join if you can, to check who is in the faction you can enter "/f who [Name of player of faction]". If they say yes you will get an invitation, to accept an invitation type "/f join [faction name]", you are now in a faction congratulations.

Getting to Your Base and Power:
Now you might be wondering where your new base is, its very simple type "/f home" you might have a few second wait till the server allows you to teleport, whenever you teleport you will appear at that exact spot unless a faction moderator or admin changes it. Before you go venturing off you should know about power, power is something every player has. It is simply the amount of land your faction can own, to view it enter "/f power [Player name]". For instance every player has a max power of 10 and a minimum of 0 (10,10), when you die you power goes down lets say the server has it so you lose 4 power upon death, so when you die once your power will be (6,10) and a second time (2,10). Don't fret power regenerates and if your faction has no enemy's you shouldn't worry.

Creating a Faction:
Lets say that faction you were in wasn't the best, so you "/f leave" what now. If you like the server make your own faction, enter "/f create [faction name]" congratulations you are a new faction leader, you can change your faction description with "/f desc [faction description]". I advise against this but to let people join your faction without an invitation type "/f open", and "/f close" to make it so only people you "/f invite [Player name]" can join. If someone has an outstanding invitation that you wish to remove type"/f deinvite [Player name]".

Claiming Land:
Now you need to find a suitable place for your faction to live and grow preferably away from other factions, to see what land is claimed by who type"/f map" which displays a ASCII art representation of the surrounding area, you can set it to automatically update every time you enter a new chunk by typing "/f map on/off". When you find a place to set up shop you need to claim the region "/f claim", this claims a 16x16 chunk of land that only your faction can build on. You can set the /f home by typing "/f sethome" Depending on the server enemy factions will be able to use doors, buttons, tnt, or other mechanisms. Now that you have staked a claim you should be aware that when your power falls below the amount of land you own an opposing faction may claim your land. Example, you claimed 10 pieces of land you power land ration is 10/10. If you were to die it would be 6/10 that means another faction can claim 4 pieces of land from you but not a 5th because you have enough power. Your power to land ratio is 6/6, Get it ? If not think of it like this a faction cannot claim your land if you power is > or = to land, but when your power is < you land it can be claimed.

Pros and Cons of Base Types

Surface Castle
Your average base nothing special, probably a large wall and maybe even a tower with a large keep in the center to keep all of your loot.

Pros:

  • Easily accessible to members and other allys
  • Testament to strength
  • Intimidation
  • Surveillance
Cons:
  • Easy to find
  • Able to tnt cannon a hole in the side
  • Hard to defend
  • Players can Ender Pearl in
  • Resource/labor intensive
Underground
Any sort of structure of tunnels and chambers made underground, might even be a converted stronghold or mine shaft. These are a extremely safe bet if your worried about being found.

Pros:

  • Hard to find
  • Small hallways for traps
  • Quick access to ores
  • Hard if not impossible to tnt cannon in
Cons:

  • Lonely
  • Farms take a long time to set up
  • Boring
  • Getting to the surface can be a hassle
  • No early warning system for raids

Underwater
Usually a portal into a under ground base but can also be a bio-sphere of sorts.

Pros:

  • Extremely hard to locate
  • If set up correctly enemies will drown when they try to enter
  • Fast access to surface
  • Infinite fish
  • Iron grip on the ink sac market
Cons:

  • Friendly's might drown
  • Very obvious where your base is at night if their is a light glowing
  • Might forget where the entrance is and drown
  • Roof leaks

Battle Tower
My personal favorite, the battle tower is a 16x16 chunk that is preferably claimed with factions and constructed with obsidian.

Pros:

  • Impenetrable
  • Peace of mind
  • Partially underground and/or underwater
  • Great early warning capabilities
Cons:
  • Extremely obvious where your base is especially when its covered with lava
  • Very cramped (If you have a large clan you can build a second tower so the whole thing is 32x16)

Minecraft Multiplayer Mods

If your going to play minecraft multiplayer their are a few mods you might want, many of which are utility mods which have no gameplay changing effects. I will include a few which do effect gameplay.

Must for modding.
This launcher lets you designate the mods you want then loads them and tests for errors before you play. This is useful for conflicting mods, and fixing the errors is as easy as clicking a button. Besides that their are a few other features like the Twitter feed of Notch and Jeb along with links of pages on the minecraft wiki.

Mods
CJB has a mod pack which includes x-ray but also a wealth of other goodies. First off is the item spawner its nothing to fancy but it woks, also a few new items that allow you to hold extra items and such. Much more important is the mini-map which give you your cords and shows the location of other mobs and players. Last but not least is the cheats, they include standard fly, speed, and x-ray all work superb in my opinion.

If your running on a slower computer or any computer for that matter optifine will boost your FPS and includes HD texture support and a zoom feature, your second best friend during recon in game. I cannot list all of the things you get you will have to follow the link and take a look.

This mod lets you sort the inventory of chest and player, very useful when your in a clan whose members don't like to put items in the right chest.

With Macro and Key binding mod you can assign in game commands to keys on your key board like /home or /smite. After hitting the key it will activate instantly, not like other macros which actually take the time into account that you were typing the phrase. If your mouse has more than three buttons like two extra on the side you can assign macros to them as well.

CJB's item spawner is not to good compared to Too Many Items, this bad boy lets you change the weather, time, and change in between creative and survival mode. The item selector includes every block and item unlike CJB and the item ID. very good if you are a server admin.
